Salman Khan’s Saffron-Clad Cameo in ‘Raja Shivaji’ Sends Theatres into Frenzy on Release Day
Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji, released on May 1, features Salman Khan’s powerful cameo as Jiva Mahala, which has gone viral for his saffron warrior look and intense sword sequence. The film’s ensemble cast, explosive theatre reactions, and box office clash with major releases have made it a trending cinematic event.
Visuals from the film, which have rapidly gone viral on social media platform X, show Salman Khan in a striking traditional avatar. He is seen wearing a saffron kurta paired with a matching turban, complemented by a moustache, a tilak on his forehead, and minimal jewellery, completing a regal warrior look.
The high-intensity sequence, backed by a powerful musical score, features Khan’s character holding a sword to an opponent’s neck. In a commanding moment, he delivers the line: “Not Shivaji; he must be addressed as Shivaji Raj,” a dialogue that reportedly triggered loud cheers, whistles, and applause inside cinema halls.
Audience reactions online have been overwhelmingly enthusiastic. One viewer wrote, “Man, just saw the cameo… what a powerful visual! What a look — pure iconic stuff by Salman Khan as Jiva Mahala in Raja Shivaji. Absolutely loved it. Theatres are going to explode with whistles and claps!” Another user commented, “Riteish has never disappointed. Every time he brings Salman Khan for a cameo, it becomes a moment. This is not just a cameo, it is a full-scale theatre celebration.”
In the film, Salman Khan portrays Jiva Mahala, the brave and loyal warrior and one of the most trusted aides of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Riteish Deshmukh revealed that Salman Khan himself expressed strong interest in being part of the project. According to Deshmukh, Khan first inquired about the shoot schedule and later insisted on being included in the film, stating that he must be part of the historical drama.
The film features a large ensemble cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Boman Irani, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amol Gupte, and Genelia Deshmukh, among others.
Released on May 1, Raja Shivaji arrives alongside a competitive box office clash with Hollywood title The Devil Wears Prada 2 and the Aamir Khan-backed film Ek Din, setting the stage for a high-stakes theatrical weekend.
The combination of a star-studded cast, historical storytelling, and Salman Khan’s electrifying cameo has positioned Raja Shivaji as one of the most discussed releases of the season, with audience response already amplifying its theatrical impact.
